ining chairs are more than a comfortable place where to sit while enjoying a meal in good company, Comfort is for sure one of the main features that help us to choose a dining chair but we do not forget about the style and the history behind a specific dining chair shape and material.
We have selected a few of the most recognised and used icon design, so learn about their life history and choose your favourite dining chair.
The Eames Chairs
Among their popular iconic designs. The DAW and DSR Eames iconic chairs were designed by husband and wife Charles and Ray Eames in the 1950s.
The DAW Armchair is a very wide recognizable design and used in a lot of interiors. Today the chair is made from moulded plastic while originally was made from a single shell of fibreglass-reinforced plastic with a wood base. The final look stayed the same over the years keeping the original design and the same comfort.
They come in a wide variety of colours, bold hues and neutral shades to suit all colour scheme and preferences.
The other classic Eames design, the DSR chair, is characterized by a wire rod base where the single plastic shell seats, known with the name of the “Eiffel” base for its resemblance with the Parisian Eiffel Tower structure.
Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen
This icon design chair was designed by Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen in 1955. It is by far the most sold chair in the history of Fritz Hansen and perhaps also in furniture history.
It is made of pressure moulded sliced veneer with chromed tubular legs and it is available in a wide range of fabrics, leather types and colours.
Its round, light and neat shape give a beautiful organic silhouette, where its curves have a soft and sleek feeling.
It comes in a number of variations to accommodate every need: with armrest, swiveling base, as a bar stool.
Tulip by Eero Saarinen
Famously stylish, simple and elegant Tulips chairs and armchairs are designed by Eero Saarinen, a Finnish American architect and industrial designer.
They are made of moulded fibreglass shell and a cast aluminium base that give the appearance of a single unit.
With these chairs and the matching table, Eero Saarinen wanted to resolve the “ugly confusing, unrestful world underneath tables and chair”, eliminating the standard legs with a cleaner and neat support.
Xavier Pauchard, a French visionary and inventive entrepreneur, in 1927 registered its trademark Tolix, to represent and sell steel household items.
In 1934 he designed the classic and largely known chair Tolix model.
This chair was made of robust sheet metal and thanks to Xavier Pauchard intuition and invention could be used indoor and outdoor.
Today symbol of the industrial style, this chair is a favourite of cafes and retro kitchen all over the world both for practicality and style.
Born to be used as a stackable chair for outdoor spaces it looks good with any style of table and it comes in a range of rainbow colours.
The Side Chair
Designed by Italian-born American furniture designer in the 1950s, Harry Bertoia, the Side chair is an absolute classic.
It’s wire metal structure give to the chair an airy and light feeling and its look can complete a lot of different kitchen and dining styles.
Side chair comes in different colours: black, white, chrome and a wide range of powder-coated colours.
Ercol is the name of a British furniture manufacturer established in 1920 when it was founded as Furniture Industries by Lucian Ercolani.
The classic silhouette and design of an Ercol chair is recognizable everywhere. They are crafted from solid wood and come in a wide range of lacquered finishes, including some lovely bold shades.
The Wishbone Chair
Inspired by antique Chinese armchairs the CH24 Wishbone has clean, neat lines and an elegant silhouette.
The Wishbone chair was one of the very first models designed by Hans J.Wegner, a Danish designer, especially for Carl Hanses & Son and has been in continuous production since 1950.
Its round and comfort look can complete any kind of style and it will be a nice addition to the kitchen table or dining area.
